Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay reviewed the progress of Phase one and Phase two works of Chennai Metro Rail Limited during an inspection that covered construction activity and operational preparedness. He examined major construction sites and train operating areas accompanied by the minister for finance, planning and development N Marie Wilson, Alandur legislator M Harish, Maduravoyal legislator P Rhevanth Charan, the chief secretary M Saikumar and senior CMRL officials. The review focused on timelines, safety compliance and resource allocation.

He began his inspection by travelling by Metro train from Government Estate station to Nandanam, where he purchased a ticket and engaged with commuters, taking photographs and noting passenger flow. The chief minister visited the operations control centre at the CMRL headquarters in Nandanam to review monitoring and management systems and to assess operational readiness. Officials briefed him on signalling, train schedules and contingency arrangements for service disruptions.

Reviewing construction progress, he discussed future expansion plans and ongoing feasibility studies and issued directions to expedite pending clearances. He enquired about last mile connectivity and feeder transport arrangements intended to link metro stations with passenger destinations and sought updates on integration with other public transport. At Kathipara he inspected the 101 foot high elevated bridge on Corridor five between Madhavaram and Sholinganallur, examining the balanced cantilever methodology being used without ground support pillars.

He proceeded to inspect the Porur Bypass Metro Station on Corridor four and observed finishing works and station facilities. He then participated in a trial run of the unattended train operation between Porur Bypass and Poonamallee Bypass stations to evaluate driverless technology and operational procedures. Officials reported the new corridor was operationally ready ahead of its expected opening and he directed further checks on safety systems and commuter amenities before services commence.
