Afcons Infrastructure has received a Letter of Award from Vadhvan Port Project for the construction of a 10.14 km breakwater at the upcoming Vadhvan Port in Maharashtra. The contract is valued at Rs 53.01 billion (bn) and the structure, when completed, will be the second-longest breakwater in the world. The award follows a competitive procurement process and represents a major marine infrastructure assignment for the firm.

The executive chairman said the contract reflected Afcons' proven expertise in delivering complex, large-scale marine infrastructure projects and that the Vadhvan breakwater would serve as a strategic enabler for India's ambition to become a global maritime hub. The managing director described the project as a moment of pride that showcased India’s growing capability to execute technically demanding projects and said successful delivery would support the Prime Minister's vision of Viksit Bharat. The company reported confidence in mobilising resources and technology to meet project timelines and standards.

Afcons has executed several significant marine projects domestically and internationally, including a bulk jetty at the Port of Sohar in Oman, the New Owendo International Port in Gabon, completed in a record time of 18 months, and a sulphur jetty in Kuwait providing an EPC berth facility. The company said it has a legacy spanning six decades and a presence in 31 countries across South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the CIS. Industry recognition includes an Engineering News-Record ranking in the Top 140 international contractors and positions of 12th in bridges and eighth in marine and ports.

Vadhvan Port is envisaged as India’s largest public port and one of the world's biggest container ports, with a handling capacity of 23.2 million (mn) TEUs that would position the country on the global trade map. The breakwater contract forms a strategic element of the port masterplan and is expected to support long-term operational resilience and capacity growth. Afcons noted that the project will draw on its technical experience and global project delivery track record.
