Three Greenfield Ports Four Fishing Harbours To Boost Maritime Growth

The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled a blueprint for multi-modal infrastructure covering ports, aviation, roads and logistics. Led by the Departments of Investments and Infrastructure and Roads and Buildings, the plan, anchored in the AP Maritime Policy 2024–29 and the Aerospace and Defence Policy 2025, leverages the state’s 1,053 km coastline to position Andhra Pradesh as India’s industrial gateway. Officials said the state secured about 25 per cent of India’s recent infrastructure investments.

The AP Maritime Board is overseeing the construction of four gateway greenfield ports forming a logistics grid valued at nearly Rs 140 billion (bn) that aims to lower regional logistics costs. Projects at Ramayapatnam, Mulapeta and Machilipatnam reported physical progress of 78.48 per cent, 75.5 per cent and 57.78 per cent, respectively, and are due in December 2026, while Kakinada Gateway Port at 41 per cent progress targets March 2028. The board is prioritising coordinated delivery to boost throughput.

Four phase-one fishing harbours at Juvvaladinne, Uppada, Nizampatnam and Machilipatnam are nearing completion, and phase-two schemes at Budigatlapalem, Pudimadaka and Kothapatnam are backed by Rs 6.9 billion (bn). Land acquisition has started for the 3,500-acre Duggarajapatnam Mega Shipbuilding Cluster, and AP LINK has been instituted to streamline operations. These measures are intended to integrate coastal assets with hinterland corridors.

The aviation strategy comprises a Rs 1 trillion (tn) investment pipeline and a 0.1 million (mn) job creation potential to develop an aerospace hub. Bhogapuram International Airport stands at 99.35 per cent completion and is set to begin commercial operations in July 2026, and nine new greenfield airports worth Rs 64.16 billion (bn) are underway. Detailed project reports for eight water aerodromes have been finalised to bolster regional eco-tourism and connectivity.

Andhra Pradesh commands a network of 8,360 km of national highways and ranks first in the country for highway density relative to population. The combined port, aviation and road investments are intended to consolidate the state’s role as an industrial gateway and to attract further private and public capital into coastal and inland logistics.
