States to repurpose smart city SPVs

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has issued an advisory outlining the future role of Smart City SPVs post-March 2025. With over 93 per cent of Smart Cities Mission projects completed, SPVs are set to support broader urban development goals. States are urged to repurpose SPVs for tech support, project implementation, consulting, research, and investment facilitation. Integrated Command and Control Centres will function as city operating systems. SPVs may charge service and project fees to ensure financial sustainability. States are advised to integrate SPVs into long-term governance plans to retain institutional capacity.
