The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh (MCC) has estimated an expenditure of Rs 1.25 crore to convert the construction and demolition (C&D) waste plant's operation from manual to mechanical.

Following a presentation on September 16, the decision was made to increase the plant's output in the city by collecting as much raw material from C&D waste as possible for the automated preparation of concrete items. The MC's engineering department will use these items in a variety of projects.

Residents will have a variety of options for bringing C&D waste to the UT's plant in the Industrial Area. After receiving public feedback and suggestions, the charges and modes of transportation private or public will be finalised. The UT is targeting not only Chandigarh's C&D waste but also Panchkula and Mohali.

Following the directions of the UT administrator and adviser, municipal commissioner Anindita Mitra said a plan to convert the city's construction and demolition (C&D) waste plant's operation from manual to mechanical through an automatic system has been prepared.

The issue will be presented and discussed at the MC's monthly general house meeting for approval.

One of the by-products, silt, can be used to fill in gaps on construction sites. Last year, the plant was chosen as a national model unit, and former municipal commissioner KK Yadav was invited to give a presentation to Smart City project representatives from various cities in Visakhapatnam.
