The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) reported that a meeting on the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and the monitoring of key project indicators (KPIs) in compliance with Supreme Court Civil Appeal number 6174/2023 was held at the DPDB Hall in Kiphire on August 27. The session was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer, and was attended by all concerned members. Officials presented formal reports, status updates and relevant documents for detailed deliberation.

The discussions focused on strengthening implementation measures, reviewing departmental progress and identifying necessary courses of action to ensure compliance with the mandated rules and judicial directives. Emphasis was placed on establishing clear timelines, assigning responsibilities and reinforcing interdepartmental coordination to accelerate corrective measures. Participants also considered mechanisms to monitor key project indicators more effectively and to improve transparency in reporting.

Delegates underlined the need for enhanced operational practices including systematic segregation at source, regular collection and scientific disposal of waste, and improved maintenance of public sanitation infrastructure. Capacity building programmes and resource mobilisation were discussed as essential to support municipal and village level implementation. The meeting stressed the importance of data driven monitoring and the adoption of standardised reporting formats to track progress against agreed targets.

Follow up measures agreed at the session include periodic reviews, tighter monitoring protocols and mandatory submission of progress reports to the office of the Deputy Commissioner for oversight. Departments were instructed to align field level activities with the judicial directives and the provisions of the new rules to ensure timely compliance. The meeting concluded with a commitment to sustain coordinated action and to report progress as part of the state monitoring framework.
