Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda conducted a surprise inspection of the solid waste management system within Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) limits early on Monday, directing sanitation workers to ensure mandatory door-to-door collection of segregated waste. The inspection began at five thirty am and covered areas from the Mallasandra auto mustering point in Dasarahalli division to Jalavayu Apartments, with the BNCC commissioner accompanying the minister during parts of the tour. Officials were required to verify attendance and the operational readiness of collection teams as part of the review.

In Mallasandra the minister checked attendance of drivers and helpers and reviewed the radio frequency identification scanning of waste collection vehicles and their functioning, noting any gaps in systems or compliance. He later visited the pourakarmika mustering point to inspect attendance, uniforms, gloves and the working conditions of sanitation workers and to listen to their grievances. The minister directed that protective equipment and basic amenities be ensured for the workforce and that any shortfalls be remedied promptly. The administration was instructed to strengthen daily muster procedures and reporting to improve accountability.

During door-to-door inspections the minister and the BNCC commissioner assessed whether households were segregating wet and dry waste, checked the regularity of municipal collection and evaluated road cleanliness in the inspected localities. They found variations in segregation practices between neighbourhoods and emphasised the need for consistent enforcement of collection schedules. The inspection underlined the importance of civic awareness alongside enforcement to achieve sustained improvements.

The minister also inspected poorly maintained vacant sites and directed officials to issue notices to owners and ensure their cleaning, with a follow up expected to verify compliance. Waste collection and segregation were subsequently reviewed in Jalahalli Ward to confirm implementation of directives issued during the inspection. Authorities were tasked with compiling a report on actions taken and timelines for remediation.
