The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) will enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to prevent waste from nearby dairy farms reaching the Yamuna. The decision followed a meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah to review measures for the river's rejuvenation. The meeting included Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta and senior officials.

Under the NDDB model, dung from dairy farms and gaushalas will be routed to dedicated plants where it will be converted into compressed natural gas and fertiliser. Officials indicated that this arrangement aims to stop effluents and solid waste entering the river through existing drains and to create usable energy and soil amendment products. The MoU with MCD is intended to establish logistics for collection, transport and processing of the material.

Participants also underlined the need to expedite desilting of the Yamuna and to put the extracted silt to productive use in manufacturing so that it does not wash back into the river during the monsoon. Officials said that discharges from sewage treatment plants, industrial outlets and all drains must be strictly monitored to ensure compliance with standards. The emphasis was placed on achieving measurable outcomes rather than satisfactory activity alone.

A decision was taken to review progress on the rejuvenation project every 20 days to maintain momentum and coordination among the governments of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and central ministries. Officials urged an integrated action plan with collaborative implementation rather than fragmented efforts by individual agencies. The arrangement is expected to link waste management interventions with broader river-cleaning operations.
