Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated 42 transmission and Distribution projects worth Rs 357 crore by the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department (JKPDD) at Anantnag.
The newly completed power projects, according to the Lt Governor, will significantly improve power supply in all 10 districts of the Kashmir Division. The Lt Governor recalled that the Prime Minister had laid the foundation for a developed and progressive Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019 and that the UT administration had prioritised providing common citizens with necessities such as quality roads, electricity, and water. The Lt Governor emphasised the initiatives taken to strengthen and improve Jammu and Kashmir's power infrastructure, which had been dilapidated for decades. Transmission and distribution projects worth Rs 2,000 crore are currently being completed, and the central government has allocated an additional Rs 6,000 crore to strengthen the UT's sub-transmission and Distribution network. According to the Lt Governor, this will assist the administration in bridging the basic infrastructure gap between cities and villages. The Lt Governor praised the JKPDD workforce for setting new standards in the timely completion of power projects, saying that the administration's goal is to provide quality electricity to all citizens and businesses. According to the Lt Governor, these expanded facilities will meet a critical need in the growing economy. In comparison to the 8,394 MVA capacity achieved in seven decades, 3,806 MVA has been added to the total capacity since August 2019. There will be no shortage of power in Jammu and Kashmir once the prestigious Ladakh-Jammu-Kashmir-Punjab transmission line project receives final approval from the central government. The Lt Governor reaffirmed the government's commitment to making the UT power surplus in the next four years and urged citizens to participate equally in this transformation. The Lt Governor informed that every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir is a participant in the nation-building process, and their contribution to socio-economic development and progress in every sector is invaluable. In particular, the long-awaited Capacity Augmentation of Mir Bazar Grid Sub-Station, which will cost Rs 30 crores, and the Mattan Grid Sub-Station, which will cost Rs 7.7 crores, will directly benefit more than a million people in the districts of Anantnag, Kulgam, and Pulwama.
