Shimla to have 219 CCTVs and 5 intelligent traffic management system

All important locations of Shimla city will be having 219 CCTV cameras which will be installed at 88 significant places across the city and an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) will be installed at five places.

The Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) is going to be set up at BCS, Dhalli, Navbahar, Totu, and Tutikandi. An automatic challan will be issued for red light jumping, overspeeding, and other traffic rules violations.

Under the Shimla Smart City project, the Urban Development Department approved and sanctioned a sum of Rs 3.24 crore to the Shimla Police to install CCTV cameras, traffic, and other equipment for the police.

For the installation of CCTV/ITMS at significant places of Shimla city Rs 2.65 crore has been sanctioned. Also, a Central Control Center will be set up in Shimla Police Lines other than the five control centers across five police stations in the city.

The CCTV cameras would be useful for the law and order maintenance, better traffic management, detection and prevention of criminal activities, vigil on suspicious people or activities, to result in improved safety and security of the public.

In busy areas, bullet cameras will be installed. As of now, 147 CCTV cameras across 57 places have been installed for Rs 50 lakh which will be linked to the control rooms. The idea to shift to invisible, smart, and prompt policing.
