After an extended period of anticipation, Metro Rail services have finally commenced operations on two crucial sections of the Purple Line, marking a significant milestone in Bengaluru's transportation network. The two sections, namely Baiyappanahalli to K R Puram and Kengeri to Challaghatta, have been inaugurated without a formal ceremony.

In a statement issued by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), it was announced, "BMRCL wishes to inform the public regarding the opening of passenger services on the two sections between Krishnarajapura and Baiyappanahalli, covering a distance of 2.10 km with one station at Benniganahalli in between, and the other section extending from Kengeri to Challaghatta, spanning a distance of 2.05 km, with effect from October 9."

This development holds immense significance as it completes the long-awaited metro connectivity between the eastern and western parts of Bengaluru. The Purple Line now extends seamlessly from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Challaghatta, covering a total length of 43.49 km and serving 37 metro stations.

With the addition of these two vital sections, BMRCL's operational network expands from 69.66 km to 73.81 km, encompassing a total of 66 metro stations. The improved connectivity is poised to significantly ease commuting for residents across the city.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, shared a video on the social media platform X to mark this momentous occasion. He expressed, "Momentous! For the convenience of people, services on two stretches of the Purple Line of #BengaluruMetro have been started without waiting for any VIP or elaborate opening ceremony to provide seamless connectivity on the entire length from Challaghatta to Whitefield!"

The inauguration of these two Metro Rail sections is expected to have a transformative impact on Bengaluru's transportation landscape, offering commuters an efficient and convenient means of traversing the city.
