Chandigarh MC plans to use an all-weather vehicle to fix the roads

01 Sep 2022

As soon as the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) hires an all-weather jet-patcher machine for Rs 20 million, rough journeys will be a thing of the past.

This makes it possible for the MC to patch roads even during the winter and monsoon, which was previously impossible. All of the many phases of patch work are combined into a single machine, and the process only requires a few hours.

The gadget will now be utilised more frequently after having previously been used in a test project. The device has produced effective outcomes in more cities as well. It will be employed for a period of one year.

The process:
A blower in a jet-patcher machine first blows air out quickly to clear the road surface. The afflicted region is then covered with tar applied at jet-like speed, followed by the addition of a cold mix. The road surface is then levelled up with a final application of tar.

The asphalt and bitumen used in this machine's cold mix are the same as those used in hot mix. The machine using the cold mix method doesn't need to heat the raw material, in contrast to the hot mix system, which calls for high temperature heating of the raw material. Water will be added to the raw material before it is pasted onto the patch.
