01 Sep 2023

The South Central Railway (SCR) officials announced that the completion of the works at Charlapalli railway station was expected by the end of 2023. This information was shared during a visit to the station by SCR General Manager Arun Kumar Jain. He assessed the progress of the ongoing works at the station, which is set to become the new alternate coaching terminal for the twin cities at a cost of Rs 2.21 billion. In the current year, an allocation of Rs 820 million has been made for these works.

Jain examined the new under-construction station building and also evaluated the advancement of coach maintenance facilities and other infrastructure-related projects. He mentioned that Charlapalli railway station would become the fourth major passenger terminal in the twin cities and emphasised that the new terminal would be equipped with modern facilities comparable to those found at airports.

Furthermore, Jain pointed out that the station was also part of the MMTS phase - II project, which would bring about several additional amenities. He mentioned that the construction of an 'all-weather covered shed' for pit lines at Charlapalli had been proposed and the proposal had been forwarded to the Railway Board for approval.

During the inspection, various other infrastructure projects were also reviewed. These included widening the existing island platform, constructing a new platform along with a new line for MMTS trains, adding two Cover-over-Platforms (COP) on new platforms and one COP on the existing platform, extending the foot overbridge for new high-level platforms, installing water pedestals on both the new platforms and the island platform, and arranging for lighting on the new and island platforms.
