Coimbatore International Airport to get land for expansion

01 Dec 2022

After a decade of struggle, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has finally reached an agreement with 90 per cent of landowners to acquire land for the expansion of the Coimbatore International Airport. The district administration has requested that the government pay the landowners Rs 20 billion in compensation. This is welcome news for the authorities, who have been working tirelessly for over a decade to secure this land for the modernization of Coimbatore Airport.

Only about 90 per cent of the landowners in this acquisition have agreed, and about 10 per cent are still fighting the acquisition.

The total area required for the expansion will be 627.89 acre, which will include 137 acre of defence land and 28 acre of common land that must also be acquired.
