Cyclone Yaas has made its way into India’s east coast merely a few weeks after Cyclone Tauktae created chaos and left behind a trail of destruction in the country’s western region.
Cyclone Yaas caused a landfall today in the North Odisha-West Bengal coast between Paradip and Sagar Island.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) has taken all necessary precautionary measures to check the impact of the cyclonic storm Yaas as a part of a significant contingency plan.
Oil and Gas companies set up Disaster Control Room at the Corporate and Divisional level for close coordination with Divisions and locations that are likely to be affected.
All the arrangements have been made by the Oil and Gas industry to maintain adequate CNG, POL, LPG stock at all dealerships in the areas which are expected to be hit by the cyclone.
Close coordination is being maintained by Oil industry officials with Paradip and Haldia Port authorities on the berthing and de-berthing of barges/vessels at jetties.
All ships that are carrying crude oil and POL products have been advised to keep a safe distance from the cyclone's path. The activities have been suspended temporarily at all project sites, the workers have evacuated the place to ensure their safety.
The companies are also organising internal meetings to distribute the information about the approaching cyclone to the field-level officers, its impact, severity, and the possible destruction it can bring to the entire supply chain.
All efforts are being made to make sure that the supply from the eastern part of India to the rest of the country of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) doesn't get affected by the cyclonic storm.
The Oil and Gas industry is also equipped to ensure a continuous supply of petroleum products and other essential commodities, including medical oxygen, for continued Covid-19 management.
