Karnataka CM Proposes Rs 31,328 Crore Metro Rail Projects in Bengaluru

01 Jul 2023

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposed two different Metro rail projects in Bengaluru totaling Rs 313.28 billion.

In his budget speech to the Legislative Assembly, he stated that a Detailed Project Report for Metro Phase-3 at a cost of Rs. 163.28 billion had been submitted to the Central Government for clearance.

This project spans 45 kilometers, from Kempapura to JP Nagar Fourth Phase, and from Hosahalli to Kadabagere, including the western Outer Ring Road line.

In addition, a fresh plan to build a 37-kilometer-long Metro line from Hebbal to Sarjapura at a cost of Rs 150 billion will be filed to the Government of India for approval.

He stated that the Metro lines will be extended from Baiyyappanahalli to Krishnarajapura, Kengeri to Challaghatta, Nagasandra to Madawara, and RV Road to Bommasandra this year. The entire length of additional lines added by the end of 2024 will be 27 kilometers.

Furthermore, Siddaramaiah stated that the Metro network will be expanded from 70 km to 176 km during the next three years, which is 2.5 times the current network coverage. The airport metro line's continuing construction will be accelerated, and it will be operational by 2026, he added.

The Chief Minister took a dig at the previous BJP government saying, "the so-called double engine government" has failed to implement the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project, an ambitious project formulated to ease traffic congestion in Bengaluru City.
