Standing Tall

SANTOSH CHAURASIA, General Manager-Sales and Marketing, New Age Construction Equipment, on the external solutions provided for Lodha’s Trump Tower.

Tall buildings have a special importance and a visual advantage due to their heights, obviousness and dominance over other elements of the scene. This has always fascinated the minds of people since the start of construction in the ancient times. Now, this is the necessity of metro cities. Mumbai is one of the cities where tall structures are taking place due to the rapid growth of population, and therefore, the constant pressure of the limited land area. This is also the expression of progress and civilisation.

The success story
New Age feels proud to serve these high-rise structures for their external working. Rope Suspended Platforms (RSPs) or Gondolas are being used and accepted by almost all market leaders of Mumbai and across India for their external painting and façade, and civil works. This success story is written about the provided external solutions at the most famous project, Lodha The Park (Trump Tower) in Mumbai.
The Park-Trump Tower is a high-rise residential project (280 m) being developed by the Lodha Group in Mumbai.
The group is also the developer of World One, a residential skyscraper under construction in Mumbai, which is set to become the tallest residential tower in the world on completion. New Age was the first to grab the order for 49 RSP for Lodha's Tower-1 on their first preference.

Execution challenges
A professional team of sales, services and design approached Lodha's engineering team and discussed about the project requirements, challenges and expected solutions. The machines were planned to work in two phases, with the first phase from 63 floors and then finally from terrace level. As the work started, there were many challenges involved, such as working height, working in duct areas, front folding extension in platforms, parapet clamps designing and approval, safety parameters, on-time services and spare parts arrangements, machines shifting and other safety requirements.

Precise solution
The machine model ZLP-1000 was recommended for the project. The machines were equipped with all advance safety devices, 1,000 kg loading capacity, 7.5 m length, galvanised.
The customisation of front folding extension added a unique flavour to the easiness in project. The parapet clamps were also recommended for the duct areas where counterweight-based suspension mechanisms were not possible. The safety parameters were considered in the first phase. Documents such as HIRA, SOP related to OH&S, drug and alcohol policy, daily check-list, etc, were submitted as required. A permanent service team, unskilled labours and spare parts stock were arranged to minimise breakdowns and to solve the technical errors at the earliest. The machines have been working since February 2018, and different agencies like painting, façade, grinding, BMU and civil contractors are using the installed RSP. Third party safety inspections and safety precautions are mandatory for all.
