Under the guidance of Managing Director Achal Khare, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL), the nodal agency responsible for the implementation of high-speed rail projects in India, is working on seven different routes, including the noteworthy Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR). It has awarded civil contracts for the construction of 92 per cent of MAHSR alignment in Gujarat (325 km out of 352 km in the state). Other HSR routes planned include Mumbai-Hyderabad; Delhi-Lucknow-Varanasi; Mumbai-Nashik-Nagpur; Delhi-Jaipur-Ahmedabad; Chennai-Mysore; Delhi-Chandigarh-Amritsar; and Varanasi-Patna-Howrah.
