Centre approves Himachal hydro project investment

The Centre’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved an investment of Rs1,8105.6 mn for the 210 MW Luhri Stage-I Hydroelectric Project on the Satluj River in Shimla and Kullu districts of Himachal Pradesh, which will generate 758.20 mn units of electricity annually. The project is being implemented by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVNL) on build-own-operate-maintain (BOOM) basis. The Union Government is also supporting this project with grants of Rs.661.9 mn for enabling infrastructure, helping to reduce power tariff. The project is to be commissioned within a span of 62 months. The power generated will help in maintaining grid stability and improve the power supply in the state, besides reduction of 0.61 mn tonne of carbon dioxide from the environment annually.
