The city’s railway workshop at Parel has manufactured four diesel narrow gauge locomotives for the UNESCO listed world heritage railway at Kalka Shimla. The Central Railway workshop at Parel began manufacturing locos in 2008 and has sent Mumbai-made locomotives to a number of public bodies across the country, including Tata Steel, the Bokaro steel plan and Neral Matheran Railway. These locomotives have features like a dual cab with a walkway between and sturdy panels used for aircraft with strong motors to climb steep mountains.
