Swiss firm gets MHA nod for Jewar airport

The construction of the much-awaited Jewar airport in Noida has progressed further, with the ministry of home affairs giving its approval for the greenfield project, seen as an alternative to New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport. Earlier, the environment ministry had given its approval after reviewing the response of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, the agency which is piloting the project, about three months ago. The Swiss firm AG International had in November emerged as the highest bidder to develop the airport on the outskirts of Delhi, outbidding competitors like Adani Enterprises, DIAL and Anchorage Infrastructure Investments Holding. The project is expected to cost Rs.295.60 bn and will be spread over 5,000 hectare of land.
