Rourkela airport gets nod for expansion

01 Nov 2022

Rourkela has received approval from the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) to upgrade the city's airport in advance of the men's FIH Hockey World Cup in January of next year. While SAIL owns the airport, the civil operations will be handled by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for a three-year period.

The project is expected to cost Rs.500 million. The proposal includes runway extension and strengthening, the construction of an ATC tower, the provision of a taxiway, and the construction of a prefabricated terminal building.

A toilet block, utility vehicle shed and building for housekeeping and support staff will also be built.
