Yediyurappa lays foundation stone of Vijayapura airport

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa recently laid the foundation stone for construction of a long-pending airport at Vijayapura in a virtual function. The airport is expected to help in export of grapes and other horticultural products. Nearly a decade after the project was conceived, the government has shown renewed interest to develop a no-frills airport to boost tourism and business. The airport will be developed on 727 acres of land at a cost of Rs.2.2 bn. Phase-I will cost Rs.0.95 bn and has been given a deadline of 18 months. The State Infrastructure Development is carrying out the project with the Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (KSIIDC) serving as the nodal agency for the project.
