Yadadri Plant Synchronises Unit 5 as Coal India Agrees Coal Supply
Coal India has agreed in principle to supply 5 mn t of coal annually to the plant from Odisha, according to developments linked to its fuel arrangements. A formal agreement has not yet been signed, while the source mines and commencement date remain to be finalised.
Singareni Collieries informed Telangana GENCO that the required G-9 grade coal was not being produced at its mines. Coal India has therefore proposed supplies from Mahanadi Coalfields in Odisha. quantities are currently being supplied from Singareni’s Naini mine in Odisha, but the arrangement cannot continue over the long term without a formal agreement.
GENCO CMD Harish and Coal India Director Nagya are scheduled to visit Delhi on Wednesday for final discussions on the supply agreement. The plant currently has coal stock for the next five days, increasing the urgency of finalising the arrangement and securing regular supplies for the newly synchronised unit.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao welcomed the grid synchronisation in a social media post and attributed the development to the vision of party president and former chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He described the Yadadri project as a symbol of Telangana’s expanding generation capacity and referred to the Rs. 204 bn order placed with BHEL.
Rama Rao also said the state’s installed power capacity had risen from 7,778 MW in 2014 to nearly 20,000 MW over the following decade under the BRS government. The latest synchronisation adds to the project’s progress, although stable coal availability and the pending supply agreement remain important for sustained generation.
