APSPDCL Connects 100,000 Rooftop Solar Systems in Six Months

Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company (APSPDCL) has connected 100,000 rooftop solar systems to the power grid in six months, with a combined capacity of 210 MW. The achievement makes it the first of Andhra Pradesh’s three distribution companies to cross the milestone under the utility-led aggregation model.

The installations have been completed at the homes of eligible scheduled caste and scheduled tribe consumers across the nine districts under APSPDCL’s jurisdiction. The discom plans to install systems at 207,000 SC and ST consumer households, with a combined capacity of 415 MW, according to official figures available on the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s ULA portal.

APSPDCL chairman and managing director Shiva Shankar Lotheti said the remaining target of 107,000 systems was being taken up on a priority basis. The utility is also streamlining the process for obtaining consent from eligible consumers before rooftop solar units are installed and connected to the grid.

The installations are being implemented under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to deploy 10 mn rooftop solar systems across India. Electricity generated by the units is fed into the local power grid, adding renewable capacity while supporting the programme’s household-level implementation.

Lotheti attributed the milestone to coordination among field officers, staff and the agencies involved in installing the systems. He said APSPDCL would accelerate the remaining installations and complete their grid connections, with the discom continuing to prioritise eligible SC and ST households across its service area.
