Itanagar — Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said the government has taken another step towards strengthening the state's power infrastructure with the successful commissioning of the 132 kilovolt (kV) Miao-Namsai transmission line. The nearly 41 kilometre (km) circuit connects Namsai, Diyun and Miao and will significantly enhance electricity reliability in Changlang district and adjoining areas.

The transmission line has been implemented under the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution System (CSST&DS), a central initiative for the north-eastern region. The project is being executed by Powergrid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) in coordination with the state government and includes lines, substations and associated distribution infrastructure.

Mein, who holds the power and hydropower portfolios, noted that the link will strengthen grid connectivity, reduce dependence on long radial networks and support the region's growing energy needs. He congratulated PGCIL, the state power department, district administrations, executing agencies and other stakeholders for achieving the milestone.

The state has commissioned 91 out of 239 project components under the programme, reflecting steady advancement towards a modern and resilient electricity network. The CSST&DS was approved to strengthen the transmission and distribution network in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim and seeks to improve grid connectivity, ensure reliable electricity supply and reduce transmission losses.

Officials said the scheme targets completion by 2027 and is expected to improve power availability, operational reliability and integration of the state's expanding electricity system with the national grid. The development is intended to support socio-economic progress in remote and border areas by modernising infrastructure and reducing technical losses. Local consumers and institutions are expected to benefit from steadier supplies and fewer disruptions.
