Arunachal Hydropower to Earn Rs 100 Bn Annually by 2047

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced that hydropower projects totalling 18,000 MW are currently in various stages of development across the state. Once commissioned, these projects are expected to generate Rs 100 billion annually for the state exchequer, paving the way for accelerated welfare and development programmes.
Speaking at the Solung festival in Roing, located in Lower Dibang Valley, Khandu said:
“With such substantial annual revenue solely from hydropower, Arunachal Pradesh will be well-positioned to achieve the vision of becoming truly viksit by 2047.”
Highlighting regional transformation, the Chief Minister said the 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Hydroelectric Project, being implemented in Roing, will play a pivotal role in reshaping the local economy and infrastructure while contributing significantly to state revenues.
Ahead of the celebrations, Khandu laid foundation stones for a series of infrastructure projects in the district, including:
- Multiple 20- and 120-bedded hostel buildings with kitchens, dining halls, and warden quarters
- Residential quarters (G+1) at schools in Sirang, Keba, Paglam, and Kangkong
- Township road upgrades at Dambuk ADC HQ and Paglam SDO HQ
- Type-V quarters for the principal of Government Model College, Roing
- Creation of electrical sub-division infrastructure in Dambuk
The CM also reviewed the under-construction bridge over the Sissiri river on the Bomjir–Paglam road, which will provide all-weather connectivity to remote villages such as Bizari, Anpum, Loklung, and Paglam once completed.
He concluded the day by visiting the Dibang Hydroelectric Project site and interacting with NHPC officials, including CMD S K Singh, to review ongoing progress and planning.
Khandu’s announcements underscore Arunachal’s strategy of leveraging clean energy to drive long-term socio-economic growth, turning hydropower into a key pillar of self-reliant and sustainable development.
