BHEL has emerged as the lowest bidder for a Rs 5,145.6 mn contract from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited for supply of 765 kV transformers. Awarded on August 24, 2026, the order covers 23 units of 500 MVA, 765/400 kV single-phase transformers under Lot-7 of PGCIL's bulk procurement. The procurement was conducted through a domestic competitive bidding process and received five responsive and qualified bids. Other bidders included CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited, GE Vernova T&D India Limited and Siemens Energy India Limited.

The contract scope comprises supply of the transformers excluding insulating oil, along with insulating oil and mandatory spares in accordance with the bid package specification. The tender used a single-stage, two-envelope bidding procedure on PGCIL's e-procurement platform. Delivery and logistics provisions form part of the commercial terms and will follow the requirements set out in the contract. The contract award aims to secure equipment for the expansion programme.

The transformers are intended for deployment across multiple projects that form part of PGCIL's transmission network expansion programme, including assets developed under the regulated tariff mechanism and tariff-based competitive bidding routes. The bulk procurement is designed to streamline equipment sourcing for upcoming transmission infrastructure requirements across the country.
