NTPC REL Wins 500 MW SECI Renewable Contract At Rs 6 per kWh
The auction, held on 21 August 2026 and identified as SECI-FDRE-IX, sought Renewable Energy Power Developers to supply assured peak power from Inter-State Transmission System connected projects across India. The tender covered a total assured peak power requirement of 1,500 MW for four hours, equivalent to 6,000 megawatt hours (MWh), to support reliable supply during periods of peak demand. The scheme aims to provide assured capacity to complement variable resources and support grid stability.
NTPC REL participated in the competitive e-reverse auction and secured 500 MW of contracted capacity at a discovered tariff of Rs 6.00 per kilowatt hour (kWh). The successful bid further expands NTPC Green Energy’s renewable portfolio and the contract is expected to contribute to the subsidiary’s strategy of strengthening its presence in the renewable energy sector. NTPC REL’s allocation forms a material component of the group’s planned capacity additions and aligns with stated targets for reliable clean power deliveries.
Peak power projects that combine variable renewable generation with assured delivery are increasingly significant as India integrates large volumes of solar and wind capacity into the national grid. NTPC Green Energy has been expanding through solar, wind and other clean energy projects, and the latest award reinforces the group’s position in India’s developing renewable energy market. Deployment of storage and hybrid configurations will be necessary to firm output as the projects move to execution over coming years.
