Prostarm Info Systems, a key player in power electronics and critical power infrastructure, has announced plans to establish its first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing facility at Reliance MET City, Jhajjar, Haryana. This strategic expansion marks the company’s entry into the fast-growing BESS market, aligning with India’s renewable energy transition.
The facility will be developed on a 3,912.15 sq. metre land parcel under a nine-year lease (May 2025–April 2034), and includes a 34,000 sq ft covered shed. The total capital expenditure for the project is estimated at Rs 250 million, covering advanced plant and machinery, power infrastructure, HVAC systems, anti-static flooring, warehousing, and office set-up.
With an annual capacity of 1.2 GWh, the unit will cater to both commercial & industrial (C&I) and utility-scale segments. Commissioning is expected by the end of FY26. The facility will enable Prostarm to meet rising demand for battery-based energy storage systems, which are crucial for enhancing grid reliability and enabling deeper renewable energy integration.
India’s BESS market is projected to grow to 66 GW by 2032 from under 0.2 GW currently. The sector’s growth is fuelled by declining lithium-ion battery costs, a shift away from diesel gensets in the C&I segment, and the critical role BESS plays in grid stability and emergency backup.
Existing Orders Boost Momentum
Prostarm has already secured a 22 MWh order from Adani Electricity Mumbai worth Rs 520 million, covering design, supply, installation, commissioning, and testing. It has also received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Bihar State Power Generation Company for a 120 MWh project under the BOOT model, with a monthly rental of Rs 4.44 lakh per MW over a 12-year period.
Ram Agarwal, Whole-time Director and CEO of Prostarm, commented, “This expansion is a natural extension of our core strength in power electronics and marks a key milestone in our growth journey. The new BESS facility will position us as one of the few Indian OEMs manufacturing battery storage systems, enabling us to serve EPC contractors and developers directly. It opens up significant revenue opportunities and strengthens our role in India’s energy transformation.”
