Prostarm Wins Rs 4.57 Billion Battery Storage Project

Prostarm Info Systems has emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for a major renewable energy initiative floated by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation (KPTCL).
The project entails the establishment of a 150 MW/300 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the 400 kV Doni Substation, operating at a 220 kV level in Gadag district, Karnataka. The award was made under a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process on a build-own-operate (BOO) model.
The project’s financial structure includes viability gap funding (VGF – state component), fixed at a rental rate of Rs 254,000 per MW per month, translating into an annual rental of Rs 4.57 billion for the installation.
Planned for a 12-year operational period, the project will provide long-term storage infrastructure, enhance grid stability, and support renewable energy integration.
Industry experts note that the award underscores the increasing role of energy storage systems in delivering round-the-clock reliable power and advancing Karnataka’s clean energy transition.
