RECPDCL and BSPTCL Sign MoU to Upgrade Bihar Power Transmission
Senior officials from the Government of Bihar and allied power entities attended the signing ceremony, underscoring the project's administrative priority. The Energy Minister, Shailesh Kumar, was present alongside the Energy Secretary and CMD of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL), the Chief Executive Officer of RECPDCL and the Managing Director of BSPTCL. Senior representatives from the energy department, BSPTCL and BSPHCL also participated, signalling interagency coordination. The presence of these officials is intended to accelerate decision-making and oversight during implementation.
The memorandum identifies grid modernisation as a primary objective, aiming to reduce transmission losses, improve power quality and integrate advanced monitoring and control systems. It emphasises transparent bidding processes under TBCB to attract competent developers and to drive competitive pricing for contracts. Accelerating project execution is highlighted through streamlined approvals, clear timelines and coordinated project management to fast-track critical corridors. The agreement also seeks to mobilise private investment to introduce global best practices, operational efficiencies and additional funding.
The Energy Minister indicated that the initiative will contribute significantly to Bihar's industrial growth vision for 2025–30 by ensuring reliable and efficient infrastructure for incoming industries. Officials expect that improved transmission capacity and system reliability will facilitate new investments, enhance supply security and support economic activity across the state. The partners have committed to follow the terms of the memorandum of understanding and to monitor progress as projects move into bid and implementation phases.
