REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) has handed over a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to Tata Power to implement the Karnataka solar evacuation project with a capacity of 2,000 megawatt (MW). The transfer assigns responsibility for development, construction and commissioning of the transmission infrastructure required to evacuate solar generation in Karnataka. The move is part of a strategic arrangement between a government-owned project developer and a private utility.

The SPV will plan and execute high-capacity transmission corridors, substations and associated grid connectivity to enable large-scale solar power evacuation. The SPV structure will allow ring-fencing of assets and focused governance to facilitate financing and risk management. Tata Power will assume project management, procurement and implementation duties and will coordinate with state and central grid operators to align technical standards and timelines. The project will strengthen regional grid resilience and facilitate integration of renewable energy into the state network.

RECPDCL had established the SPV to attract private sector expertise and expedite infrastructure delivery for large renewable projects. Tata Power will take over financing arrangements, implementation schedules and stakeholder engagement to advance construction and commissioning. Stakeholder coordination will include local utilities, land authorities and contractors to manage rights of way and civil works. The companies will work with grid operators and regulatory authorities to ensure technical compliance and timely energisation.

The handover underlines growing collaboration between public project developers and private utilities in expanding India's renewable transmission capacity. Completion of the 2,000 MW evacuation network will support the deployment of large-scale solar generation and contribute to broader decarbonisation objectives. The arrangement aligns with national efforts to scale renewable infrastructure and is intended to accelerate grid decarbonisation while maintaining supply reliability. The transfer positions Tata Power to deliver complex transmission works and supports the state's transition to cleaner energy.
