BEML CMD Rajasekhar: Five factors that will boost demand for CE

The recovery in the construction equipment (CE) industry has been surprising and sharp since July 2020. While part of the growth is optical, coming on a low base of the year, early recovery in the rural economy and strong road activity have spurred growth in the industry. A recent ICRA survey with CE dealers indicated a healthy improvement in demand for new machines; the dealers hope to register volume growth for FY21.

BEML’s new high-capacity earth-moving equipment reflects where the emerging demands are. Speaking on the demand diversity in CE sector, MV Rajasekhar, CMD (In-Charge) & Director (Mining & Construction) of the public sector enterprise and India’s largest earth moving equipment manufacturer, BEML Limited, says demand for CE is diverse and is expected to grow on the back of the government’s sharp focus on infrastructure, in turn emphasising the need for improved infrastructure.

Rajasekhar identifies five factors that were responsible for a pandemic-led impact on the industry, and five drivers of growth.
