Rs 100 Million Released For Bihar Rural Housing Scheme

The Bihar government has released Rs 100 million (Rs 100 mn) for all districts under the Chief Minister Rural Housing Scheme for the financial year 2026-27. Rural Development Minister Shrawan Kumar described the allocation as aimed at providing pucca houses to eligible poor families in rural areas and ensuring that no deserving household remains homeless. He presented the move as part of efforts to fulfil the vision of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The allocation is intended to support district-level construction and planning.

The assistance will particularly benefit households living in dilapidated dwellings and those omitted from other housing schemes, the minister noted. Under the state programme eligible beneficiaries are to receive financial assistance of Rs 0.12 million (Rs 0.12 mn) in three instalments for house construction. The instalment mechanism is designed to support phased building and to monitor progress. Local bodies will be involved in beneficiary verification and technical support for construction.

The minister said families not included in the waiting list of the central scheme are being covered under the state-run programme, widening the net of beneficiaries. Officials indicated the release is intended to accelerate delivery ahead of the monsoon season and to ensure that construction meets safety and permanence standards. The scheme is expected to improve housing conditions across rural areas and reduce shelter insecurity among economically weaker sections.

Implementation will be overseen by the state Rural Development department with coordination at the district level to identify eligible households and schedule disbursals. District administrations are to maintain records of beneficiaries and monitor construction quality and instalment releases. The announcement follows continued state emphasis on rural welfare and housing inclusion. Budget utilisation will be reported to the state cabinet and progress updates shared with district authorities.
