Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari reiterated a commitment to transform Nagpur into a green city through the plantation of two point five million (mn) trees across the city and district. Under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, saplings two to three metres in height will be supplied to schools, universities, voluntary organisations, political parties and other stakeholders for large-scale plantation and conservation. The minister presented the drive as part of broader environmental and urban renewal efforts.

He spoke at a press conference in Nagpur to mark twelve years of the central government and outlined major development works in the district. He said that, with support from the Revenue and Forest Departments and the Remote Sensing Centre in Nagpur, mapping of all districts and talukas in Maharashtra will be undertaken and districts with extensive plantation activity will be recognised. Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule attended.

He reviewed welfare initiatives and noted that 580 mn bank accounts have been opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana during the past twelve years while Ayushman Bharat has benefited 600 mn citizens. He reported that 110 mn LPG connections have been provided under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and that 110 mn farmers receive annual assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. He said that loans worth approximately Rs35 trillion (tn) were disbursed under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana to 570 mn beneficiaries.

He said loans and training measures have supported entrepreneurs, with Rs35 trillion (tn) disbursed to 570 mn beneficiaries under the Mudra scheme. Startup India has yielded around 160,000 startups and 118 unicorns and 50 mn youth received Skill India training. The ministry is implementing 1,600 driving training centres nationwide; 24 are operational and 112 planned, with around one mn trained so far and 11.5 mn expected annually. He added that market redevelopments and institutional projects are underway and the Nagpur–Hyderabad Expressway will cut travel to nearly three and a half hours; the Indora–Dighori flyover is due to open on 1 August 2026.
