Haryana To Procure 1,000 Buses Including 500 Electric Buses

Haryana Transport Minister Anil Vij said the state government will soon procure 1,000 new buses, including 500 electric buses. The announcement was made in Chandigarh amid plans to expand and modernise the state fleet. The move follows efforts to improve public transport infrastructure and services.

The government intends to modernise public transport to make journeys safer, more environment-friendly and more convenient for passengers. The new fleet will comprise 500 electric buses and 500 ordinary buses, and will be deployed across urban and intercity routes. Planners expect the additions to reduce emissions and enhance service frequency on busy corridors.

All buses operated by the Haryana Transport Department will be fitted with advanced tracking systems to enable real-time monitoring of vehicle locations and movements. Digital display boards, modelled on those at airports, will be installed at bus stands to provide timely information on arrivals and departures. The tracking technology will support operational oversight and help resolve schedule deviations more quickly.

Officials are developing a mobile application through which commuters will be able to track bus locations, check schedules and access route information on their phones, aiding journey planning. The system will also monitor whether buses are operating on designated routes and will generate an alert if a vehicle deviates or fails to call at a designated stand. An explanation will be sought from the driver in such cases to ensure accountability. The government said it is continuously working to integrate technology with transport services to provide a better travel experience.

The measures are expected to strengthen transparency and accountability in the public transport system and to improve passenger confidence in state services. Real-time data will allow managers to assess route performance and adjust services as required, while digital information at stands will reduce waiting uncertainty for commuters.
