Madhya Pradesh Unveils Urban Development Roadmap at Indore Conclave
Yadav released the Indore Economic Region 2047: Economic Master Plan, prepared under NITI Aayog’s City Economic Region initiative. He also released the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting reports of the Bhopal and Indore municipal corporations, and unveiled draft policies covering affordable housing and habitat, treated wastewater recycling and reuse, and unified land development and building promotion rules.
Six Memoranda of Understanding covering urban financing, sustainable resource management, institutional collaboration and investment promotion were exchanged at the conclave. The agreements involved the Indore Municipal Corporation and Bank of India, the Ujjain Development Authority and Indian Overseas Bank, the Rewa Municipal Corporation and HDFC Bank, and state departments working with the Hotel and Restaurant Association (Western India) and the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation.
The Chief Minister said the state was facilitating affordable housing while planning modern townships with renewable energy, treated water and improved transport. Townships were also being planned along economic corridors, including the proposed development link between Indore and Bhopal, which he described as part of a broader integrated regional plan rather than a project limited to the two cities.
The government is developing metropolitan regions around Bhopal and Indore, each covering six districts, with Jabalpur and Gwalior expected to be included in future plans. Yadav said increased flexibility in building rules would allow structures and multi-storey complexes of up to 100 floors where road width and other conditions were adequate, compared with the previous general limit of 30 metres. A higher Floor Area Ratio could help conserve agricultural land and support further urban development. The Chief Minister also met industrialists and investors to discuss urban infrastructure projects, implementation and potential partnerships.
