Marsons, Cleanhill Partners to Form JV for North American Manufacturing

Marsons, an India-based extra-high-voltage (EHV) power transformer manufacturer, and New York-based private equity firm Cleanhill Partners announced on 6 October 2026 that they intend to form a joint venture (JV) focused on North American operations. The proposed venture will cover transformer manufacturing, distribution and services in the United States and Canada.

The partners plan to scale distribution and service activities initially, while addressing a regional transformer supply gap. According to Marsons, lead times in North America currently exceed 24 months, creating pressure for utilities, renewable energy developers and other electricity infrastructure users seeking equipment.

The longer-term plan includes establishing full-scale transformer manufacturing in North America. The facility and related operations are intended to support sustained demand arising from grid modernisation, renewable energy infrastructure expansion and increasing power requirements from data centres.

Marsons is executing transformer orders for major US renewable energy and utility projects, including generator step-up (GSU) transformers rated at up to 200 MVA. Its existing manufacturing facility covers 45,000 square metres and has annual capacity of 12,000 MVA. The company has outlined plans to increase this capacity to 26,000 MVA.

Cleanhill Partners managing partners Ash Upadhyaya and Rakesh Wilson said the proposed partnership would combine Marsons’ manufacturing capabilities and established US execution experience with the firm’s investment support. Marsons chief executive Harshvardhan Kotia said the JV would provide capital, market access and operational assistance as the company seeks to develop into an infrastructure partner in North America. The announcement was based on company exchange filings.
