Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh will perform the Bhoomi Pujan for a state-of-the-art 10,000-ton aluminium extrusion press at Yantra India Limited (YIL), Ordnance Factory, Ambajhari in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on 19 June 2026. The ceremony will be attended by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, the Secretary for Defence Production, Sanjeev Kumar and senior officials from the Department of Defence Production and YIL. The event is presented as a milestone for defence manufacturing investment in the region. The ceremony follows official planning and coordination by central and state authorities.

The proposed extrusion press is described as a major national asset that will strengthen the nation’s capability to produce large, high-strength and precision aluminium alloy extrusions to meet the requirements of the defence and aerospace sectors. It is expected to enable the fabrication of complex profiles required for platforms and systems that demand tight tolerances and material performance. The project is positioned to reduce dependence on imports of critical extruded components. The initiative aligns with policy emphasis on enhancing domestic production capacity.

Yantra India (YIL) will operate the facility within its Ambajhari ordnance complex, where the press will be integrated with existing metalworking and finishing capabilities. Officials indicate that the installation will support supply chain localisation and foster skilled employment opportunities in the manufacturing ecosystem. The development is intended to bolster the resilience of defence supply chains and shorten lead times for procurement of specialised parts. The press is also anticipated to serve the civil aerospace and industrial sectors, where large aluminium extrusions are required.

The project is presented as supporting the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision through import substitution and enhanced indigenous capability. Observers note that the move reflects continued emphasis on capital investment and technology acquisition within defence public sector units. The event on 19 June will bring central and state stakeholders together to mark the start of construction and commissioning activities.
