TACC and NUS I-FIM Sign MoU on Graphene Advanced Materials

TACC and the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials (I-FIM) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) have signed a memorandum of understanding in Singapore on 2 June 2026 to collaborate on advanced materials science and nanotechnology. The agreement establishes a long-term framework combining TACC's industrial capabilities with NUS I-FIM's scientific research expertise to accelerate development, validation and commercialisation of next-generation materials, including graphene and related functional nanomaterials.

The partners intend to pursue joint research and innovation, translate laboratory research into industrial applications and develop, test and validate new technologies. The collaboration aims to accelerate technology readiness levels through applied research and development and pilot projects, explore commercialisation pathways such as licensing and joint ventures, and develop talent via researcher exchange and cross-disciplinary industry training programmes. The parties will also pursue cross-border collaboration to connect the Singapore and India innovation ecosystems and leverage artificial intelligence and laboratory automation.

Senior executives framed the partnership as a deliberate step to bridge academic research and industrial-scale manufacturing. Mr Ankur Khaitan, managing director and chief executive of TACC Limited, said the MOU was intended to speed technology maturity, create tangible commercialisation pathways and strengthen the Indian innovation ecosystem by uniting world-class research with industrial-scale ambition. Professor Sir Konstantin Novoselov, director of NUS I-FIM and a Nobel laureate, described the collaboration as a means to translate scientific research into scalable technologies.

TACC is a wholly owned subsidiary of HEG Limited within the LNJ Bhilwara Group and combines expertise in high-performance carbon with applied materials engineering and manufacturing. The company has a 20,000 metric tonne (t) anode materials plant and a 4,000-plus t graphene derivatives facility currently under development. NUS I-FIM, launched on 7 October 2021, focuses on the design, synthesis and application of functional intelligent materials and seeks to enable commercially viable applications across energy, electronics and manufacturing.
