Textiles Summit 2026 Sets Roadmap For Sustainability And Exports

Textiles Summit 2026 concluded with representatives from state governments, industry and academia coming together to chart a roadmap for the sector with an emphasis on sustainability, exports and global market expansion. The two-day event convened senior officials and industry leaders to align policy and investment priorities for manufacturing, design and innovation.

Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh urged a shift from planning to execution by implementing district and state-level strategies with a proactive approach. He highlighted the need for product-market alignment, value addition and compliance with sustainability and environmental standards, and called for effective utilisation of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) alongside a greater focus on niche products. The minister also stressed coordination between central and state agencies to speed up project delivery.

Textile Secretary Neelam Shami Rao indicated that recommendations received from states, districts, industry stakeholders and Export Promotion Councils would be incorporated into a comprehensive National Textile Export Roadmap to strengthen exports and enhance India's presence in global trade. Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal focused on leveraging recently concluded FTAs to boost textile shipments, urged industry to address information gaps at district level and encouraged states and Union territories to actively engage in the revived District as Export Hubs initiative.

Final sessions examined quality standards, sustainability certifications, textile waste management, recycling systems and the development of digital product passports as tools for traceability. They outlined strategies for export enablement, market diversification, ease of doing business, promotion of man-made fibres and development of globally competitive micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) while seeking to strengthen Brand India in international markets. Participants reiterated the sector's ambition of achieving United States dollar (USD) 100 bn in textile exports by 2030.
