JSW Steel is expanding its pelletising capacity in Odisha while strengthening its steelmaking capabilities in Karnataka through two major projects with Primetals Technologies.

At JSW Vijayanagar Metallic in Toranagallu, Primetals has commissioned a new melt shop featuring two 350-tonne basic oxygen furnaces, two ladle furnaces and two two-strand continuous casters, supported by advanced automation and a primary dry dedusting system.

At JSW Steel’s Paradeep facility in Odisha, Primetals has received an order for two pelletising plants, each with an 8 MTPA capacity. Together, the plants will add 16 MTPA of pellet production capacity and directly support JSW Steel’s wider capacity expansion programme.

The Paradeep plants will incorporate an 816 sq m induration furnace and advanced process automation, while the new steelmaking complex at Toranagallu incorporates technologies aimed at improving process stability, quality and operational safety.

The projects underline the scale and technological intensity of India’s next phase of steel expansion.

With domestic steel demand rising, increased pellet capacity and modern steelmaking infrastructure could strengthen raw-material efficiency and production resilience.

For the engineering sector, the projects also highlight the growing demand for advanced technologies across India’s expanding metals ecosystem.
