Right ecosystem needed for secondary steel sector, consumers

Minister of Steel, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh, told the media that there is a need to provide the right ecosystem for the secondary steel industry and consumers to achieve the target of 300 million tonnes (mt) of steel capacity by 2030.

The Minister said this while addressing a meeting of the manufacturers and consumers held in Surat.

Singh said that the Ministry had emphasised the need of supporting and providing the right ecosystem for the secondary steel sector and consumers in a bid to meet 300 mt capacity by 2030.

In the meeting, the Minister highlighted that all the targets could be achieved only with the active participation of secondary steel producers and consumers.

Officials of the Ministry of Steel, representatives of the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce, stakeholders of the secondary steel sector and the steel consumers association of Gujarat were also present at the meeting.

According to a statement, the Minister also suggested steel players take more interest in developing niche steel products to meet the country's needs.
