Civil aviation ministry shortlists 2 sites for Chennai's 2nd airport

The Ministry of Civil Aviation shortlisted two sites, Pannur and Parandu, to develop the second airport in Chennai and has referred them to the state government.

Out of the four sites suggested by the government of Tamil Nadu, the ministry has shortlisted two sites.

Pannur, Parandur, Tiruporur, and Padalam are the four sites shortlisted by the state government for the second airport.

Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M Scindia told the media that they have selected two out of the four sites and have also reverted those to the state government. They are awaiting the answer on the final site to initiate the work to ensure that Chennai’s second airport comes to life as soon as possible.

Pannur and Parandur are at a distance of 60 km and 70 km from Chennai. On the Chennai-Bengaluru route, both of them are near Sriperumbudur.

Further studies such as technical studies shall be undertaken once the state government picks a final location.
