Dombivli MIDC gets Rs 110 cr for road projects after 19 years
For the past 19 years, the industrialists and residents in Dombivli MIDC were striving to get their roads fixed due to a conflict between Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and MIDC over a shortage of funds.
The road, constructed by MIDC in 1987, was assigned to KDMC. Since then, these roads were repaired and maintained by the KDMC. Although in 2002, after the 27 villages that covered these roads got excluded, the Gram Panchayats were given the responsibility of maintaining and repairing these roads. Since gram panchayats did not have adequate funds, they were not able to do so. The roads were merged into KDMC in 2015 and came back under the power of KDMC.
Since KDMC had limited funds, the conflict between the two administrations began on whether the road work should be done by KDMC or the MIDC.
Eknath Shinde, Urban Development Minister and Subhash Desai together finally approved a fund of Rs 110 crore for road work, of which MMRDA approved a fund of Rs 57 crore and MIDC approved a fund of Rs 53 crore.
Both the administrations would very soon issue the tender for the repair after which the road work would begin.
