Maha PWD breaks NHAI record by constructing 25.5 km road in 14 hours

The Maharashtra Public Works Department (PWD) has set a new record by constructing a 25.54 km stretch of road in just 14 hours, beating the previous record set by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). NHAI had taken 18 hours to complete the same stretch length.

With the help of a private contractor, the entire 39.67 km road from Pusegaon to Mhasurne in Satara district was completed in 24 hours.

The Solapur-Vijapur road was recently completed in record time by the NHAI. To complete the road from Pusegaon to Mhasurne, a team of 15 state PWD engineers, 60 private contractor engineers, 47 inspectors, 23 quality control engineers, 150 drivers, and 110 workers worked in three shifts.

Sanjay Mungilwar, a superintendent engineer at PWD, informed the media that they used micro-level planning to construct the road in record time.

Six teams were stationed at various locations so that construction could begin at all six locations at the same time.

They had ensured that the road being built was of high quality, in addition to quantity, said Mungilwar.

He went on to say that they used high-tech equipment to inspect the quality of the raw materials as well as the road itself. The road was constructed using approximately 1,100 metric tonnes of tar and 6,000 cubic metres of gravel. To make the material, transport it, and build it, eight hot-mix plants, seven sensor pavers, 12 vibratory rolls, six pneumatic rollers, and 180 dumpers were used.

To begin, the PWD established a planning think tank composed of its top engineers. In addition, the department created a war room to facilitate coordination and communication during actual work.
