Gadkari to inaugurate pilot project for hydrogen-based FCEV

Minister of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate the first pilot project for hydrogen-based Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), Toyota Mirai. Gadkari will also demonstrate Toyota Mirai FCEV.

It will be the first of its kind project focusing on spreading awareness about green hydrogen, FCEV technology and spreading awareness on its benefits to support the hydrogen-based economy.

With PM Modi's vision of achieving Energy Independence, and as a part of Toyota's commitment towards promoting sustainability by shifting from fossil fuel to green hydrogen and towards the conservation of our environment, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited and International Center for Automotive Technology (ICAT) will carry out a pilot project to study and evaluate the most advanced Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) in the world, Toyota Mirai which runs on hydrogen.

India is committed to cleaner energy and a low-carbon target for achieving accelerated economic growth.

Hydrogen is a key element of the clean energy strategy and would play a major role in the low carbon pathway. Green Hydrogen also provides opportunities to decarbonise various sectors, including road transportation. Transportation facilities using green hydrogen will be a significant technology option of the future with a vital application, especially across bigger cars, buses, trucks, ships and trains. It is best suited for medium to long-distance journeys.
