Four major road infrastructure projects in Delhi are scheduled to feature at an event on 29 September. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to inaugurate the completed Barapullah Phase 3 elevated corridor and the Mukarba Chowk underpass, besides laying the foundation stones for two new flyovers.

The Barapullah corridor is the largest of the four projects and will provide a signal-free connection between Mayur Vihar Phase 1 and South Delhi. It will link with the existing Barapullah corridor at Sarai Kale Khan, creating a continuous route of around 9 km towards AIIMS and other parts of South Delhi.

The project was approved in 2014, and construction began in 2015. Although completion was initially planned for 2017, delays increased the revised project estimate to around Rs. 16.35 bn. The corridor is now among the key road links intended to improve movement between eastern and southern parts of the capital.

The foundation stones for the Modi Mill-Kalkaji flyover and the Savitri Cinema half-flyover will also be laid at the event. The Modi Mill project forms part of a plan for a 7.2 km signal-free corridor towards IIT Gate, with three lanes in each direction. The Savitri Cinema project involves a 435-metre, three-lane single carriageway, which the Public Works Department plans to expand into a dual carriageway.

The two flyovers have an estimated combined cost of Rs. 3.72 bn and are intended to improve traffic movement towards Nehru Place, Okhla and nearby areas. The Mukarba Chowk underpass has been completed near Gate 3 of Haiderpur Badli Mor Metro station in North Delhi. Work on the Outer Ring Road project had stopped in 2022 during the COVID-19 period before resuming and reaching completion.
