The Assam cabinet approved a budget of Rs 38.75 billion to develop 348 kilometers of disaster-resilient roads in the Dima Hasao district. This extensive project includes the construction and upgrade of five key roads within the district. An early warning and rapid response system for landslides and flood disasters will also be implemented in the area.

Five roads in Dima Hasao have been identified for upgrading to national highway standards, aiming to significantly enhance the district’s connectivity and boost its tourism potential. The funding for these projects will be shared, with the Central government contributing 80 per cent and the Assam government covering the remaining 20 per cent.

This initiative represents the largest road development project undertaken by the state government for Dima Hasao, with work set to begin once the current flood situation improves.

Additionally, the state government decided to provide one-time financial assistance to full-time research scholars of state-run universities. Eligible research scholars will receive Rs 25,000, while differently-abled research scholars in government universities will be granted Rs 40,000.

The cabinet also approved the development of a new university, Swahid Kanaklata Barua State University at Gohpur, with an estimated investment of Rs 4 billion.

Furthermore, each district will now be headed by a Senior Superintendent of Police instead of the previous designation of SP.
